If it’s thrills and spills you seek, catch a new action movie today

When it comes to new movies, there’s a lot happening over the next three months. For starters, who doesn’t love a good girl versus shark movie? We’ve got one of the best to hit the big screen since Jaws. There’s a mystery thriller that follows the character previously explored in The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. Plus we have a crime drama based on the true story of the customs agent who helped bring down the world’s greatest cocaine manufacturer, Pablo Escobar.

The Shallows

Set to be released on the 4th of August, The Shallows tells the story of a young woman (Blake Lively) who goes to a secluded beach to surf following the death of her mother. Naturally, things start out deliciously. The beach is stunning, the surf is fabulous, and the few fellow board riders who know about the spot are all young, good looking and friendly.

Enter the shark! Suddenly our heroine is injured, all chances of help have become fish food, she’s stranded 200 metres from shore, and it’s your classic wits versus giant chewing monster story. Can you think of a better way to spend a lazy afternoon?

Beautifully shot and brilliantly paced, this is a highly entertaining movie that will have you avoiding secluded beaches for some time to come.

Inferno

Directed by Ron Howard and starring everyone’s favourite hero, Tom Hanks, Inferno will be gracing our screens from the 27th of October. Robert Langdon, the hero of two previous Dan Brown novels, wakes in a hospital without memory of what’s been going on over the last few days. As he struggles to regain his memory, he’s suddenly the subject of an intense manhunt and a puzzle that he must use his talent for symbology to solve.

If he doesn’t find answers quickly, the future of mankind will be somewhat dubious.

The Infiltrator

Remember Bryan Cranston as the meth-cooking high school teacher from Breaking Bad? Well, this time he’s on the right side of the law in The Infiltrator, the true story of the people involved in the downfall of drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar.

It will hit our screens from the 22nd of September, with wall-to-wall action and snappy dialogue make this one of the edge-of-your-seat thrill rides.

Directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer), it tells the tale of Robert Mazur, a US customs agent who went undercover to map out and expose the machinations involved in the illegal drug trade in the US during the 1980s.

We’re in for an exciting three months, so grab a ticket and get in on the action.
